Dear Fellow Alums,

Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to you all. The entire AASH Board is so grateful to all of you for your support and encouragement. May 2005 bring more peace to this troubled earth and let's work to spread the message of God's unending love for each one of us. We will soon celebrate His son's birth, an act of profound love for all of us.

Love in the Sacred Heart, Barbara Lopiccolo AASH President

Still time to order the AASH directory. I just ordered the CD which has pictures of all the Sacred Heart schools besides the name and addresses of alums.

Barbara Lopiccolo - November 18, 2004

Happy feast day to all of us, Children of the Sacred Heart. Today the Church honors St. Philippine Duchesne. We are so blessed to benefit from her example of boundless courage and unending confidence in the love Christ has for each of us. Please hold the intentions of your fellow alums in your heart today in a special way as we celebrate Philippine's legacy to us. Love in the Sacred Heart. Barbara Lopiccolo AASH President

Congratulations to Adele O'Grady Botticelli, Eastern Regional Director, the Greenwich Alumnae Association and Stephanie Ashley, Greenwich Alumnae Director, for a wonderful Eastern Regional Conference. The program included thought-provoking speakers and a very interesting presentation by students from both 91st St and Greenwich on their student philanthropy programs. Sr. Joan Magnetti, Head of School at Greenwich, welcomed us all graciously both Friday and Saturday. Thank you to all who contributed their time and talents to the conference.

Merci mille fois, Barbara Lopiccolo AASH President

I was so happy to find this site. I have not seen or heard from any of my classmates or received any alumni news in approx. 30 years. I attended Convent of the Sacred Heart Eden Hall from 962-1967. I'm still in New Jersey. Would love to hear from anyone out there.

Marguerite (Bryant) Guerriero - October 1, 2004

Does anyone know if there is anyone handling alumni info for Eden Hall. I went there for one year only...the year it shut down and I often wonder what has become of my classmates. I was in the 8th grade in 1968-969 class and my maiden name was Bryant. I now live in Anchorage Alaska so if anyone has any interesting info please let me know...thank you....sincerely, Marguerite

My heart, respect and prayers are with them. Also, please say a prayer of blessing and thanks, for my beautiful Mother's upcoming Class (1954) Reunion on October 16th, 2004 at Grand Coteau. Irene Mackenroth - May 29, 2004
Just an update on my condition. I have metastatic melanoma. The cancer has metastacized to the groin, the lungs (very small), and the adrenal (the'bad'one). I have been in an experimental protocol at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center since Feb. 10,2004. I fly over and back every Tues for a treatment and every 4th week go on Monday for tests and see the Dr and do a treatment on Tues and fly back to work Tues PM. Things are going well. The tumor in the groin is gone and what's left in the lungs they think is not cancer. The 'big' one in the adrenal has shrunk .3 cm which is very good and encouraging. So keep praying. The treatment is ongoing (openended)and they may want me to do a round of beta interferon when it is over or maybe a round of DTIC. It's in God's hands and the incredible Drs. at M.D.Anderson. I recommend for anyone diagnosed with the big C to do whatever you can to get into M.D.Anderson. It is truly an awesome, impressive place. Please keep the prayers going. I may be one of God's weeds or perhaps even crabgrass which is even harder to get rid of and I think He has a lot more for me to do. Whatever He wants I am ready. Thanks for all your prayers and support. The AASH & AMASC networks are wonderful. Love in the Sacred Heart, Irene

AASH National Office - May 25, 2004
Loving wishes to all on the feast of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart. A contemplative as well as a woman of action, she saw before she died 89 schools established in 15 countries, and her religious numbered close to 3,000. May the wondrous legacy she left us continue -- in her same spirit of fidelity, courage, generosity, clarity of vision, and union with the Heart.

Carol Wartelle - May 23, 2004
I graduated at end of WWII from Forest Ridge in Seattle, WA and have lost contact with members of that class.

Melinda Whiting Renshaw - May 18, 2004
This is my first visit to the AASH website and I am so pleased to have found it. The first year the Academy opened in Bloomfield Hills, I entered third grade. I was a Sacred Heart student until my sophomore year in high school. My Sacred Heart Academy roots live with me to this day I will never forget what those years meant to me. I hope all of my friends from the class of 1968 are well and God bless you all. Tres bien!

beverly villars white - May 16, 2004
I graduated from the Rosary - Sacred Heart, New Orleans,Class of 1944. This is my first visit to the AASH website. I am seeking the assistance of any Sacred Heart alumni who work in the literary field, preferably New York City. My son is co author of a financial book that lays out the methodology for assessing stocks and other investments that will hopefully provide the investor with holdings for the long term. The thesis behind the book is focus investing - ie, using your own research and intensive work, the investor will develop " cummulative knowledge" of their holdings and call the shots as to when and if to make changes. The burden of proof in this strategy falls squarely on the investor themself. Additionally, my son is also assisting in the publication of two other books form the same gentleman. Any Sacred Heart alumnus who works in or has connections to someone within a literary agency, your assistance would be appreciated. The authors have decided to forego any advances that may be paid on these books and redirect those funds to the literary agent as a extra stipend. Both of these gentlemen are motivated and want a chance to work with on eof the major publishing houses( John Wiley and Sons, Random House, Prentice Hall or others.) Please respond to the following email address: rwhite69@cox.net or call me, Beverly Villars White, Phone ( 504 ) 834 - 5586. thank you

LYNN WAGNER SHUNK - April 19, 2004

Re: Alumni Memories ID#241010045076 Marjorie P. de Verges (DeVerges in your mailing) I am the nephew of Marjorie de Verges. I received the Directory Questionnaire which was mailed to her. My aunt died on December 23, 2003 in New Orleans at the age of 87. She had enjoyed great good health until the last six months of her life. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nelvylle de Verges, and her brother, Leonard de Verges (my father). I wanted to share the news of her death with your readers. Eugene P. de Verges

MAY THE BLESSINGS OF THE RISEN CHRIST FILL YOUR HEARTS AND HOMES DURING THIS BEAUTIFUL EASTER SEASON. MAY THE LOVE THAT WE SHARE SPREAD THROUGHOUT OUR TROUBLED WORLD,AND BRING PEACE TO ALL MANKIND. LOVE IN THE SACRED HEART, OLGA AND OUR AMASC TEAM

Kathleen Simon , AMASC - April 08, 2004
Greetings to each of you as we enter this Holy Easter Season. We are now at the end of Phase I of our Study Plan and are eager to receive from each association/country your thoughts and reflections on the central question "How would your life have been different if you had not received the gift of a Sacred Heart education?" Currently, around the world, alumnae/i are gathering in groups large and small, or reflecting alone on this simple (yet we hope profound) question as a means for each of us to identify our collective gifts and talents which come from our common experiences as Children of the Sacred Heart. Phase II will enable us to move into our communities and share our gifts with those in need as we work together with the central theme of "Collaboration for a Transformed World". Our AMASC Board of Directors will be meeting in New Orleans (USA) in April to discuss world issues and the AMASC Congress in 2006. We would very much like to be able to advise the Board of our progress on Phase I and include your responses. The complete text of the Study Plan may be found on the web site in multiple languages at www.amasc-sacrecoeur.org Our fervent wish is to receive as many responses as possible to this query about our shared Sacred Heart experiences. Responses need not belengthy, formal or in any specific form. A return email would be most appreciated on or before 14 April 2004. With gratitude and love in His Sacred Heart, KATHLEEN E. SIMON, AMASC

Thank you for this wonderful service to keep us in touch. I'm looking for the biography of St. Madeleine Sophie that includes her letters. It's an old book published by Sheed and Ward. I would like to purchase a copy for my grand niece who has taken St. Madeleine Sophie as her Confirmation name and model. I would also like to obtain more than one copy of the small prayerbook published in Tokyo in the 1950's. It was small and black and meant especially for young people. Thanks for your help, and may the lenten self-denial lead to the joy of the resurrection!

Wallis Strobach - March 23, 2004
Sister Marianna Torrano RSCJ will open a primary school at the Soboba Indian Reservation in September, 2004. She is searching for teachers for the kindergarten and first grade. The school will be located on the St. Joseph Church property where she lives. Sister is asking the help of the Alumnae to advertise these positions, and requests that resumes be sent to: St. Josph's School, P.O. Box 302, San Jacinto, CA 92581. For inquiries please call Sr. Torrano 909-654-2086. Thank you very much.

To:Eloise Welch Wilding. The religious you are thinking of who painted the sweet holy pictures was Mother Nealis of Canada. I am trying to get more information for you. I have a beautiful story of her life and work way down deep in my files. I'll start digging. Jeanne O'Fallon, AASH Office

Eloise Welch Wilding - March 15, 2004
I graduated from Eden Hall in 1951. I am wondering if anyone knows the name of the RSCJ who painted very sweet pictures of the Child Jesus in the early 1940's. I believe she was from Canada.

Laura Stokes-Gray - March 06, 2004

I was distressed yesterday to see that DePaul University voted to close Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. I have so many wonderful memories of my years there. It is especially sad as this is the 100th anniversary of the campus. But I will always carry my Sacred Heart lessons with me.

Catherine Taft - February 05, 2004
The Florida Gold Coast AASH will be hosting their 17th annual luncheon on Saturday, March 6th,2004 at the Sailfish Club in Palm Beach. The Gold Coast Alumnae donate the funds raised at this luncheon to Kenwood in support of the retired religious. The gift is always a significant one, one that is crucial to fund our annual operating budget. On behalf of all at Kenwood, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to these outstanding alumnae and friends. We pray that you honor their efforts and offer your support by joining them on March 6th. For more information please call Mrs. Brenda Nolan Carey, President at 561-844-2770 or Mrs. Jeanne O'Brien Conway at 561-659-3459.

Please visit the website of the Religious of the Sacred Heart ( www.rscj.org -- just a click from our home page) to view the data of the Dream phase of their two-year planning process called 3D: Dream, Design, Decide. Alumnae/i and many other non-RSCJ – aptly referred to as “stakeholders” -- participated in this first phase of the study and now are being invited to participate in the Design phase. We hope many alums will find a way to respond to this generous and humbling invitation to be a part of the Society of the Sacred Heart's future

Gloria U. Carreras - January 03, 2004
I would like to let everyone know hoe beautifull are the Mater and Saint Philippine medals from the gift shop, even more beautifull are the Christmas ornaments, mine will hang on the wall by the foyer.

AASH National Office - January 01, 2004
As 2004 begins, we wish the very best to all our alums. Let us join together in Janet Erskine Stuart, RSCJ (1857-1914)'s timeless Prayer for the New Year: Heavenly Father, Unseen companion of our life, give us faith and eager expectancy as we begin this fresh stage of our journey. Take from us all fear of the unknown and teach us to wrest treasures from the darkness. As the days come and go, may we find each one is laden with happy opportunities and enriching experiences; and when this year is ended may our best hopes be more than ever fulfilled.

Please see the "Please Pray For" section for a very important and very sad message from AASH immediate past president Nancy Agnew. Let us all join together in prayer.

Nancy Agnew -November 29, 2003

It is with a sad heart that I share the news of Maryliz deVito Lincoln’s sudden death on Wednesday, November 26. The cause of death has not been determined but it is thought to be a massive heart attack. Maryliz spent her life in joyful service to others. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart local, national and international community: serving, as an alum of Lone Mountain, her beloved San Francisco Alumnae of the Sacred Heart; as AASH president from 1999 to 2001; and at the time of her death, as AMASC vice president. Maryliz was also the current president of the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Please pray for the repose of her soul and for those family members and friends she left behind, especially her stepson, Mark, and his wife, Stephanie. Today, two days after Thanksgiving, let us join in giving thanks for her life. She was a valiant woman and will be sorely missed, but let us take comfort in the knowledge that she is home now.

Airlie Ogilvie - November 22, 2003

The Alumnae of the Sacred Heart in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada just had their Fall Get together at the wonderful old Convent of Point Grey now owned by St. George's Junior School for Boys. We had 35 out and had a wonderful time hearing about the amazing work done by Father Abraham S.J. in India (near Nepal) We had 12 wonderful Calendars from Sprout Creek Farm to Raffle and win as door prizes. How lovely they are. Thanks to Fran Asam for making the extra 6 calendars part of our fun Alumnae meeting. How fabulous it was to read that the SCF Cheese has hit the New York Times. Congratulations to all (animals included!!). How special it is that the farm can teach children the importandce of the earth and the animals in it. Love to all Alums and RSCJ for a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas Season, Airlie Ogilvie President of the Vancouver Point Grey Alumnae

Gloria Carreras -November 21, 2003

Please pray for a very delicate situation, that we may find the person we are looking for safe and sound.

Barbara Lopiccolo - November 14, 2003

Congratulations to the Bertrand and Glennon Families. They were honored last night at a Trustees' Dinner hosted by Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich. "They exemplify the best of Sacred Heart education by their community spirit, social awareness, and service to their school, faith, family and friends." This is taken from the journal chairpersons of the event. We at AASH are also grateful for the dedication of Marion Glennon as past president and Board member of our association. Merci mille fois (a thousand thank you's) dear friend. Barbara Lopiccolo AASH President

Today is the Feast of Mater Admirabilis and thus a special day for all Children of the Sacred Heart. May Mater help each of our alumnae and alumni remain focused on the Essential and not get confused by the values in today's world. May she also help each of us bring to our own place in the world the calm and peace reflected in her face.

Barbara Lopiccolo -October 17, 2003

Dear Sacred Heart Family, Happy Feast of Mater Admirabilis. Today we celebrate a wonderful story of trust in the Lord and trusting in the creative spirit in each of us. When Pauline painted that fresco and then covered it up, she was trusting that what she had done would somehow speak to her love of Mary and what beauty and art reveal about the Spirit of God. Because I work in a Sacred Heart school I get to go now to see the 2nd graders reenact the story of the painting. One student will be dressed as the Pope and another as Pauline and a third as the Reverend Mother of the Trinita-what a treat for me! Enjoy your day and let us again thank God for his gift to us of Sacred Heart education. Much love to all in the Sacred Heart

Natsuko Otani Komori - September 23, 2003

Hello, everyone. It's been so long since I graduated from CSH Greenwich, CT in 1991. I went back Japan since 1991, but I returned to the States to take MA in Children's Literature at Eastern Michigan University. Having shared information on this website, I felt as if I went back to my school days at CSH. Thank you and May God bless you all. Natsuko Komori

Carolyn Price
- July 15, 2003 *

At the end of June, Barbara Lopiccolo, the recently elected President of AASH, met in St. Louis with the new AASH Board of Directors. One of the highlights of this gathering was a presentation by Sheila Hammond, rscj on the society's appreciatiative inquiry entitled 3D - Dream, Design, Decide. This was a most moving learning experience. I encourage alumnae to become involved in this activity when it is offered this fall in your schools and alumnae associations. As alumnae, we can articulate what we think is the most meaningful part of our Sacred Heart heritage and what we think should be preserved in schools today. As alumnae, we also have a chance to voice what we think is important in the rscj mission of today and the alumnae component in that mission. The rscj's have extended their hand in collaboration and it is important that as alumnae we work together with them in their chosen missions. If a group is not meeting in your area you could forward your ideas directly to Sheila Hammond, rscj.

Cathleen Conley Quinn - July 09, 2003

Congratulations to all who worked to produce this wonderful website. Anyone from Eden Hall, Class of 1944, or indeed from the years 1932-1944 who reads this message and wishes to respond is most welcome to do so.

Barbara Lopiccolo - June 27, 2003

Dear Sacred Heart Alums, Happy Feast Day of the Sacred Heart! This is our special day as we thank God for his gift to us of our education with the rscj. Their mission around the world is alive and thriving. As President of the AASH, my prayer today is that those of us who so benefitted from our association with them will identify ways in which we may stay involved and support the ministry of all rscjs to ensure this treasure for future generations.

News from Kenwood: Sr. Canty came home from St. Louis raving about the beauty and quality of the total conference. The content of the panel on the Church, as well as the other workshops were well worth attending. The graciousness and thoughtfulness we experienced at each campus was outstanding. Who will ever be able to have anything as beautiful as the evening at the Museum of History and the music of the Department of Strings of LA Due High School. She and Sr. Baxter from Oakwood were so touched by the encouraging gift presented in honor of elder RSCJ.

Catherine Taft - March 20, 2003

News from Kenwood: Sr. Ruth "Dicky" Whalen, age 87 died on March 9th. A close RSCJ friend wrote to the Community about Sr. Whalen remembering her standing calmly at the epicenter of a lively group of pre-adolescents. Sr. Whalen had made an art form of their education. She mastered just the proper blend of discipline and freedom to keep the students' energies focused, their minds challenged, and their hearts happy and anchored in faith. They knew they were loved, and rose to her expectations of the best that each one could be. Please pray for her RSCJ Sisters and her family. Her sister Kay, age 95 was present for her funeral.

Carolyn Lindeman Price, Alumnae Director, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan - March 20, 2003

The Alumnae in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan join the Religious of the Sacred Heart in mourning the loss of Sister Ruth Whalen and pray in gratitude for her many years of service to us on Lawrence Avenue and in Bloomfield Hills. She will be remembered by our Alumnae for her high academic expectations, sense of humor, and love of the Detroit Tigers.

Margo O'Connor Bieker - March 11, 2003

Just picked up a greeting card at Hobby Lobby with RSCJ nuns on the cover in the old habit. I bought it to share with my dear friend, Sister Mary Pat Ryan. I cannot tell the location of the photo but the nuns are with a construction man and five of the nuns are in hardhats. The card is published by Portal Publications Ltd. and the copyright is Hulton-Deutsch Collection/Corbis, published and distributed by Portal Publications. I'll bring the card to the National Conference so that we can all decifer the nuances. One nun wears a different cross which I have never seen, perhaps another order, I don't know.

john enugu - March 11, 2003

Although we live far away from your country, we'll keep praying for you and for your country, and pray God that all of us would be able to live in peace and justice for the rest of the 21st century

Barbara Lopiccolo - March 02, 2003

Greeting to all alums of Bloomfield Hills. Here is a short update of news from our school. We had our annual Benefit last night and it was very successful. The theme was " A Hundred Thousand Welcomes" in gaelic and an all Irish theme. We were treated to a concert by the Saw Doctors, one of Ireland's hottest rock 'n roll bands. We also learned last night that the Middle School for Girls placed first (grades 5 and 6) and second ( grades 7 and 8) in the Destination Imagination competition in our area. The girls will now move on to the state competition. Our Middle School for boys continues to thrive and grow. We will add grade 7 next year to grade 5 and 6 we began with this year. I hope to see some of you in St. Louis in April for our national conference and more at Bloomfield for our annual meeting the first weekend in June.

Hi Everyone Just thought I'd check in from good old Arizona. Believe it or not it's raining here. I think we're the only people in the world who stand up and cheer when it's not just another beautiful sun shine day. Anyway, our new Western Regional Director is Sally Anderson right here in Scottsdale. She and I and about ten Arizona alums will be at the National in St. Louis in April and hope to see all of our old pals and a lot of new ones. If there is anyone out there either in Arizona now or moving here, please contact Sally at 480-946-6407 and she'll be happy to fill you in on our upcoming meeting dates and events. I just read Wally Strobach's comments regarding the mention of the Sacred Heart in the movie About Schmidt. I agree, not too flattering. Well all, that's about it for now. Happy Trails, Marcie

Wally Strobach - January 12, 2003

Dear Fellow Alums, This is just for your entertainment. My son and I just saw two movies "About Schmidt" and "Chicago". In each film there was a mention of "The Convent of the Sacred Heart". You might even say the references were more infamous than famous but it is nice to know we are thought of.

Lynda Deal (Williams) - January 05, 2003

Dear Laura de Obeso, Read your message; just found this site. We were at ISSH Taiwan together. Was very touching to read your message and see your name. Lynda Deal Williams

Happy Feast of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne! Today is the 150th anniversary of her death, and we celebrate her life and work. This morning I had the privilege of joining the Oak Hill students and St. Louis RSCJ community for Mass at the Villa Duchesne Chapel. We were reminded of Philippine’s courage, strength, generosity and love. Let us remember her today, and give thanks for her life and for the blessings of our Sacred Heart education. Nancy Agnew

Are there any Duchesne Alumni out there? I'd like to hear from you especially 1956-1957.

Lorraine Scullion -October 30, 2002

I just wnated to share with alumni all over that the Western Regional Meeting held in Seattle 10/11-13 was outstanding. The Alumni Panels and the Student Panels inspired all in attendance. We left the beautiful northwest with inspiration to roll our selves up in our own communities and make a difference. Sr. Irene Cullen shared the work of the RSCJ in Africa. Again, we were inspired and thrilled to see the activities and learn of the needs they have. May we support our own communites and the ministry of the RSCJ's as best we can. Congratulations to the planning committee, the hospitality to the Forest Ridge community and all those involved in the success of the Western Regional Meeting. Love, Lorraine Smith Scullion (CES/CSH Broadway '72 '76)

She prepared many children for their First Communion and Confirmation. Several of her former charges and their family members came to mourn Sr. Hoza. The quote for the cover of her funeral mass was, "She lived for Others".

Esther Kmetty - October 03, 2002

I would like to join with so many others in congratulating the team who worked on website. It looks wonderful. It is such fun to see and hear from so many nice friends in what is a familiar setting - because it is AASH. We had such a wonderful experience at AMASC in Australia and I am very fortunate in looking forward to attending the Western Regional Conference in Seattle next week. The beautiful issue of Esprit de Coeur arrived at my home this week. Congratulations on a job superbly done!! And the warm, newsy, chatty invitation from National Conference Chairman Patsy Sheehan just makes me wish that we didn't have to wait until April (sorry, Conference Committee if I just gave you heart failure!). I look forward to seeing everyone there. Perhaps all these things could be listed on the Calendar. They might be in other areas, but having them on the calendar would be helpful. Thank you, again, to all for their hard work. It is much appreciated. I am currently the International Hospitality Chairman for AASH. If I can be of help to you in acquiring an AASH Passport, please write to me. You can find my address in most association publications. I do not wish to post it here. You can also ask your reps who have it in their red directories. I need to know your maiden and, if applicable, married name and the name(s) of Sacred Heart Schools you attended, and I need a clearly printed return address. I will send your passport to you as soon as possible. Remember that it is good for life. With love in the Sacred Heart, Esther Kmetty

Congratulations to all who worked on this up-dated Website! How appropriate to have this new beginning as we in AASH draw together in special ways this year - to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne, to learn from one another at Regional Meetings, to gather in St. Louis at the AASH Conference in April, and to support Olga Rome and her committee in preparing for the AMASC World Congress in 2006.

Mary Ann Keyes - September 19, 2002 *

Congratulations on the makeover on the new website! It looks wonderful and will be a great way to communicate with each other and alum all over the world. It would be helpful if the Eastern Regional conference to be held in Albany on October 18,19 and 20th could be added to your calendar(as well as the Western and Central). Thanks for keeping us up to date! Mary Ann Keyes Eastern Regional Rep

A DEATH AT KENWOOD: Agnes "Aggie" Kelly RSCJ,94, went to God on August 15th. Sister Kelly entered religious life in 1938. For the Funeral Mass the Kenwood Chapel was full, four chaplains, family, members of the Kenwood Braille Association (Sr. Kelly being their Asst. As the priest said, Sr. Kelly's mission was to help others to see - to see the love of God.

The close of the school year at Bloomfield Hills has been spectacular. We now have a beautiful new statue on the front lawn with a garden of brick pavers and benches and a garden designed by Mr. Colonius. At the St. Madeleine Sophie liturgy last week, we honored Mrs. Parks for 25 years of service to the school as Middle School Art Teacher. Over the weekend, our Upper School Lacrosse team won the state championship for the second time in three years. We have special events planned for the closing of our sesquicentennial year of celebration. At each Prize Day, every child in the school will receive a letter from an alum sharing memories of her Prize Days. We have a special medal that each child will also receive in honor of our 150th anniversary.

Helen Rosenthal, rscj - May 06, 2002

It is good to have positive news of how some are responding to the Church scandals and I think "the Voice of the Faithful" is a sign of hope. Our papers seem to only give negative news.

Mary Ann Keyes - May 01, 2002

As a result of the crisis in the Church that has especially impacted the Archdiocese of Boston, a group called Voice of the Faithful has been formed to allow a forum for concerned Catholics to have their voices heard. We started out as a group of about 40 in early February and there were over 500 participants at last Mondays meeting. They come from all over the Archdiocese and other New England States. We come together in prayer and with broken hearts for the victims and their families who have suffered for so many years. Indeed, we were outraged that some in our hierarchy had covered up this abusive behavior by priests and continued to move these priests from one parish to another. In the eyes of many, this seems to be the greater evil.

Somehow St. Madeleine Sophie's statement that she would have founded the Society "for the sake of one child" is a reminder to all of us of how precious our children are. That standard is one which was never considered as our hierarchy operated in secrecy with no accountability to the laity whom they serve and greater concern for the image of the Church that the life of a child.

Our Mission Statement says that Voice of the Faithful exists "to provide a prayerful voice, attentive to the Spirit, through which the faithful can actively participate in the governance and guidance of the Catholic Church." Our goals are to 1)Support suvivors of abuse; 2) Support priests of integrity; 3) Shape structural change within the Church. Our leader, Jim Muller,M.D. is the recipient of the Nobel Prize for starting Physicians Against Nuclear War. He is a devout Catholic and knows how to take a grass roots organization to the national and international level. That is what is needed if there is to be change in the structure of the Church. As laity we have been given the directive by Vatican II to share in the life of the church. "...Consequently, let every opportunity be given them so that, according to their abilities and the needs of the times, they may zealously participate in the saving work of the Church" Lumen Gentium(Dogmatic Constitution on the Church) Vatican Council II.

We have over 4,200 supporters from 36 states and 19 countries. We had a Mass for Healing for Victims in our parish Fri. April 26th and about 800 attended. It was a beautiful, well thought out Liturgy, sensitive to victims who might be there (usually only families come as most victims want nothing to do with the Chruch). While I was standing at the Church door, one woman burst into tears as she reached the door and said "this is the first time I've been to church in 15 years since my son was abused". Her pain is what we are responding to. We are in the process of helping parishes around the country start their own Voice of the Faithful chapter. So if you or anyone you know is interested contact us. Our website is www.votf.org. Submit your e-mail address on our website to show the media and Church leaders that there are thousands of concered Catholics like yourself. I am a member of the VOTF Steering Committee and the Eastern Regional Rep on the AASH Board. I see our alumnae throughout the world as a vehicle, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit,to bring about new life in our Church. Pray for this work, access our website and come to our one day conference on July 20th in Boston.

Blessings, Mary Ann Keyes

I would like to congratulate Mother Seymour on her jubilee. She was my second academic teacher at Prince Street during the years '55 '56. I remember her very well and would like thank her for her teachings as well as all my other teachers at both my Sacred Heart Schools in Cuba and in Rochester. May God continue to bless them all.

A beloved member of the Rosary, New Orleans Alumnae and a cherished friend of AASH went to God this week. Many will remember and want to pray for, and now also pray to, the remarkable, indomitable, faith-filled Lorraine Nalty Gambel who lived more than 90 wonderful years. She is the mother of Ellen Simon and grandmother of AASH Rep Kathleen Simon.(Messages such as this usually are posted at "Please Pray For" in the spirituality section which we hope our friends will check and add to often.)

Hi Everybody, It's been so long since I shared any information on this website I have almost forgotten how to use it. However, now I'm up to speed and want to give you an update on the ongoing activities of the Arizona Association. We are planning to have our annual Kentucky Derby Day celebration again this year. It will be held the first Saturday in May, May 4, 2002, and among the other charities that we donate to, it will also benefit our scholarship fund for a student attending the University of San Diego. We invite anyone visiting the Valley of the Sun at that time to please join us for this fun event. The cost is $40.00 per person which includes a gourmet lunch complete with mint julips and all the trimmings. The event starts at noon Arizona time and the Derby is run around 1:30. Come early and enjoy a day which is only surpassed by a box seat on the finish line at Churchill Downs. For more information or to receive an invitation, please either e-mail me or call my home (480-945-1928). Happy Trails, Marcie

Jubilee Celebration: On Sunday, Feb. 17th, Sr. Sarita Mejia celebrated 70 years from First Vows. Sr. Mejia wore a lovely pink rose corsage, as she renewed her vows before her community in the Kenwood Chapel. The response by the community: Loving God, you call all who believe in you to grow perfect in love by following in the footsteps of Christ your Son and our Savior, may Sarita, whom you have chosen to serve you in the Society of the Sacred Heart, provide in her life a radiant sign of your Kingdom. The Jubilee Mass was followed by diner in the Kenwood Community Dining Room.

Saturday, March 2, Sacred Heart Luncheon

Saturday, March 2, 2002, The Governor's Club in West Palm Beach FL will be the site for the 15th Annual Sacred Heart Luncheon. This is truly a "social" event, women with a common bond coming together to enjoy each other and great food in a great place. The proceeds from the luncheon are donated to Kenwood in support of the retired/infirm Religious of the Sacred Heart. We hope you will attend the luncheon and join the Gold Coast Alumnae Group in their effort to support the religious, who have lived their lives in the service of God's word.

Seeking a Literary Agent

I am an alumna of Sacred Heart, Budapest, Hungary and Atherton, California. I have written a creative non-fiction book about my mother's life. She was born of Jewish parents who converted to Catholicism and was therefore deemed to be Jewish by Hitler. The story involves that conflict but it is also a love story and one of survival. If any of you know of a literary agent I could contact who would help me obtain a publisher, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
