Messages from 2005

Eileen Shaughnessy Jarc - December 21, 2005

I am so sorry to hear of Mother McNally's stroke. She will be in our prayers. She certainly is a wonderful person. Great memories of her days at Maryville. I would love to hear of our friends in the south and how they are doing post-Katrina. Love to all. Eileen Jarc

Olga Rome, AMASC President - December 19, 2005

Dear Members of our Sacred Heart Family, On behalf of the World Association of Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart, I wish you the blessings of good health and happiness during this Holy Season. As we gather with loved ones, let us pray that the Christ Child will bring peace to our hearts, our families and our troubled world. Love in the Sacred Heart, Olga

Wallis Strobach - December 17, 2005

On Thursday Mary Gray McNally RSCJ suffered a severe stroke. She taught at Maryville and was Dean. She spent her later years with the Villa Duchesne Alumnae. She is a dear friend to many.

Adele O'Grady Botticelli - November 23, 2005

Dear Alumnae & Alumni, With the cancellation of the AMASC Congress, the 2006 AASH Regional Meetings will be re-scheduled. Look for the new schedule in the Winter Esprit de Coeur. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families. All the best, Adele

Olga Rome, AMASC President - November 17, 2005

Dear Members of our Sacred Heart Family, As we celebrate the beautiful Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, let us pray that we will be blessed with the courage and strength of that virtuous woman. Please know that our hearts are joined with yours on this special day and always. Love in the Sacred Heart, Olga and the AMASC President’s Team

Ellen Estess Cvitanovich  - November 16, 2005

Hello everyone, I graduated from ASH Coteau in 1987. I lived on the beach in Biloxi. I, my husband, and two daughters lost our home and all of our belongings. We have managed to get back on our feet and with many prayers have just reopened our historic restaurant Mary Mahoney's Old French House. I cannot begin to express to everyone that there is no place in the world that needs aid right now more than south Mississippi. Especially Hancock and Harrison Counties. There are many many people still living in tents. It is very sad. I am sorry to say that FEMA just cannot work fast enough. Please keep everyone in this area in your thoughts and prayers during this time. I can tell everyone that the media did not do this storm justice. It still looks like a war zone all along the coastal area here. You cannot imagine the devastation unless you are here to see it for yourself. Again, please remember all of these people in your prayers during this holiday season. Thank you.

Marcie Amoryy  - November 11, 2005

The Arizona Association are in one Heart with Olga Rome and the members of the AMASC Presidents Team. We send you our love, prayers and support. To those who have been devastated by the wrath of hurricane Katrina we pray that the courage of Sts. Madeleine Sophie and Philippine will give you strength as you work through this. YOU ARE NEVER ALONE

Adele O'Grady Botticelli, President, AASH 2005-7 - October 29, 2005

I invite you to visit www.sofie.org to read the homily by Kathleen Hughes, rscj on the Goals and Criteria for Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, 2005.

Olga Rome, AMASC President - October 20, 2005

Dear Members of our Sacred Heart Family, On this beautiful occasion of Mater's Feast, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Your prayerful support has been a great source of strength to our New Orleans team during this very sad and trying time. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding concerning the transaction of AMASC business. There has not been a day since Hurricane Katrina vented her wrath on the levees of our city, that our international family has not been on our minds. Please rest assured that we are doing our very best to keep you informed and to stay in touch with you through our AMASC and AASH websites. I am particularly grateful to Anne deBroglio, Jacqueline Klomp-Verhoeven, Adele Botticelli, Barb Lopiccolo, Jeanne O'Fallon, Marion Glennon and Irene Mackenroth for passing my messages on to you when I had no internet access. You will be receiving information from us, concerning the Congress and the National President's Meeting scheduled for April 2006, after the President's Team meets next month in New Orleans, Tuesday, November 15th. The deadline for nominations for the AMASC President's Team and Administrative Councillors has been extended to the aforementioned date, November 15th. Love in the Sacred Heart and prayers for peace in our troubled world, Olga

Jeanne Gartland Cole - October 20, 2005

I am an alumna of CSH - San Francisco 1970. You might say that I took a huge leap of faith last year and have landed safely at the "convent." The "gates" are always open and I love having visitors - especially those of you who are looking to make your gift-giving more meaningful. Holy Orders offers a variety of quality products "made with love" at monasteries around the world. So please stop by for a visit at www.holyorders.biz.

Adele O'Grady Botticelli -  October 19, 2005

Let us all celebrate the special attributes of Mater ring such presence and joy to all of us in the Sacred Heart community here in the United States and Canada as well as around the world. As we face the transfer of the Trinita dei Monti where her portrait resides, let us thank God for all the graces He has brought into our lives through her intercession and start anew to make her a part of our lives. With love to all our Sacred Heart community, Adele

Mgbada Joe  - October 17, 2005

I would love to located a school friend, Patty Ann Farrell from Hawaii, who studied at Lone Mountain around 1973-74. Any information would be appreciated. From, LOME TOGO

For a most inspiring and uplifting look at Sacred Heart education today, see the tele-conference prayer service held at St. Charles, MO September 15, 2005 and aired in all our schools. It opens with the New Orleans (Rosary) head of school Dr. Tim Burns thanking all for the spirit of family shown in the weeks since Hurricane Katrina. Go to: "http://access.carrollton.org/mediasite/viewer" and click on the "View: Goals and Criteria 2005" link.

Mary Howe Derbes - September 10, 2005

From the Georgia Bulletin (newspaper of the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta): The archdiocese has offered tuition-free placement of displaced children in its Catholic elementary and high schools for the 2005-2006 school year where space is available. Schools will try to place children of Catholic families first, but those who are not Catholic are also encouraged to apply. Some independent Catholic schools in North Georgia, not administered by the archbishop, also announced they will accept children displaced by Katrina tuition-free for this school year.

Adele O'Grady Botticelli - September 8, 2005

Please continue to pray for our Sacred Heart Family throughout the Gulf Coast region. We give thanks to God that the Religious of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans are safe as well as our AMASC President Olga Rome and her family and AMASC Treasurer Irene MacInroth and her family. Though miraculously "the Rosary" is still standing and intact, the students have already been re-located and enrolled in Duschesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston, Tx and Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA. To help with this transition, please return to the main page of www.aashnet.org and read the Society's press release on their Hurricane relief effort. Please continue to pray also for the thousands of people left homeless and jobless in the afterrmath of Hurricane Katrina. With love and confidence that our alumnae/i community will rise to this challenge, Adele O'Grady Botticelli, AASH President

This is a note to Sophie Grenier from Lydia Larose Rives ('53). S.L. and all of his family are well. Most are at Larry's in Lafayette. S.L. is in Houston with daughter Charlottte Noto. I read somewhere in this web that you are in FL and told S.L.

Marcie Amory - September 4, 2005

Good Morning Everyone Our family and the Arizona Association are deeply saddened by the devastation of hurricane Katrina. We want to help in every way possible and appreciate the information posted on rscj.org regarding the two prong approach to this situation. We urge everyone to go to this website. It outlines the most useful way we, as Children of the Sacred Heart throughout the world can become involved. We thank God that our dear Olga Rome and her family are safe as well as all those Religious and families who were saved from Katrina's rage. We pray that those whose burden it is to restore order and rebuild following this disaster. Marcie Amory

AASH National Office, Jeanne O'Fallon - September 4, 2005

So many are asking how to help our Sacred Heart family in New Orleans. Until we can get the link posted at this site, please go to www.rscj.org and see the two-pronged effort which directs your gifts to our own families and/or to the Catholic Relief Services. AASH is so grateful to the Society of the Sacred Heart for coordinating this. Continue to follow updates from the people most affected at www.sofie.org.

Elizabeth A. Collins - September 1, 2005

Hello! I am an alumnus from ASH in Grand Coteau, LA. (1988) I am currently working with school districts locally to raise funds/supplies to be shipped to the Gulf Coast. I am also a Realtor in the state of Illinois and would be more than willing to help relocate those that are would be willing to relocate up here and forego the astronomical commissions to be given back to AASH Org and the Red Cross to help with relief. I can be contacted at: 1700 Valley Forge Place Downers Grove, IL 60516; lizardco@comcast.net or reached directly at: 630.853.7141 God Bless to ALL! Sincerely, Elizabeth A. Collins a.k.a. Just an assurance that we are keeping tabs of all these generous ofers and that the Network of Schools and the RSCJ are working together to do what will be most helpful for all. So glad this guestbook is some sort of connector for people. Until we get everything linked, please check the coverage at www.sofie.org. SO many are signing in there and, thankfully, reporting their safety. See also AMASC-sacrecouer.org

Mary Grace Mullen, Maryville 1968 - September 1, 2005

RE: Helping Victims of Katrina AASH is a marvelous organization with vast resources throughout this country. Can we work out a plan to offer hospitality to some of those affected by Katrina -- especially families with children who will be displaced for a minimum of 2 months. The Sacred Heart Network Schools have launched an effort to assist families of students at the Rosary and other Catholic schools in New Orleans to relocate. AASH may be able to support this effort -- and broaden it into other communities. For example, Texas has indicated it will absorb Katrina refugees into their school systems. Other schools systems throughout the country are likely to do so as well -- if families and children are offered an interim place to stay. I'm eager to work on a plan if there is an interest in developing one. Please be in touch. Thanks.

Bedley Byers - September 1, 2005

I am a graduate of the Rosary in New Orleans and work with Olga on the World Congress. I'm so happy to hear that Olga has evacuated safely. I am safe and currently in Georgia. Olga, please send me your e-mail address so we can keep in contact. My love and prayers to all, especially Katrina refugees.

Noemi Pena de DiazMontoro - September 1, 2005

Could somebody help us get organized to send our help small or big for all the people in the New Orleans area as well as the other 2 States that has been hit by Katrina? Here in South Florida there are some areas that need help too but nothing like N.O. We are glad Olga and her family are well. We are praying a lot and we know that Mater and the Sacred Heart will not abandon so many people in need. Cuba in Exile expresses solidarity with all those who are suffering and want them to know that they are not alone. Much love in His Heart, Noemi

Lina M Aguirre - August 31, 2005

I have been trying to get on the American Red Cross donation form online but it won't work (probably web traffic - servers too busy) nor am I am sure it will accept donations from people outside the US. Is there any way we could start a Sacred Heart international relief fund? I am aware it is too soon to assess all the losses and damage but I am sure we could start doing something now to help at some point.

AASH National Office - August 31, 2005

We have received a report from Olga Rome of New Orleans, AMASC president and AASH past president, that she is safe with her family in Georgia. The New Orleans RSCJ went to Grand Coteau and are safe. At last report, our school on St. Charles Ave. was okay, but we know the situation worsens rather than improves. See AMASC, RSCJ and SOFIE sites (from our home page) for other updates. Please join in prayer (see our Please Pray For section) and support the Red Cross. We will post news as soon as we hear it. Courage and confidence! In the Heart, Jeanne Burke O'Fallon

Lina M Aguirre - August 31, 2005

How can we help? I'd like to express my solidarity to the SH family accross the US, especially to the communities suffering from the hurricane's impact and devastation. How can we help? Are there any relief initiatives at work now? Please let us know.

The Sacred Heart family in St. Louis/St. Charles enjoyed a wonderful visit from Cokie Roberts in December(see photos & story at www.rscj.org)that included a book signing for alums at the RSCJ National Archives and a standing room only public event in the evening at the Mo History Museum where she spoke about her book dedicated to the RSCJ: Founding Mothers.

Gracellen Goodman - January 28, 2005

I just moved to ariz. from La Quinta, Ca. in Feb.04 and thought nothing more about AASH until very recently, actually, Christmas time. Wanting a Midnight Mass to attend I was looking through the community newspaper here in Anthem and found that, the new Parish here, St. Rose, was having service. Thought nothing more about it except that my late mother-in-law was named Rose. A week went by and there was an article in the newspaper concerning St. Rose's parish. The proper name for the Parish is; St. Rose Phillippine Duchesne Oh, what a jolt and I must say a happy one. Coincidence, I don't think so! I like to think of it as Providence.

This was the year of '04, of my 40th reunion from graduating from Forest Ridge, then in Seattle, so have been thinking much about my life. Turning 60 this year does that to one and watching so many dying and have died that I have loved. Sacred Heart makes all the trials of life easier, to say the very least.

Thank you, Tres Bien.
Gracellen Goodman

Have been working with the 2004 Directory on CD to update our Colorado/Wyoming roster. Have found many alums long-since deceased still listed... and many very old phone numbers... shall we try on the next go-round to NOT include those who are not responding, or with whom we have NOT had direct contact? Have, however picked up several alums new to CO whom we will contact for our meetings. I know that it is a huge job, and appreciate all the hours necessary (I have spent more than 20 hours cross-referencing!) (Note to Ed: You may leave out anything you wish as long as the details get to the right person in the office!)

Sandy

Barbara Lopiccolo - January 19, 2005

Dear Alums,

I suggest you visit the Network of Sacred Heart schools' website to see the updated information about what our schools are doing in response to the tsunami disaster. I think it will make you proud to be a Sacred Heart alum and to be confident that the work of the schools is very relavent and meaningful for their students today.

Barbara Lopiccolo AASH President
