Thoughts and Prayer Requests 2001-2005

Melissa O'Gorman Schwope - December 27, 2005

Thank you to all that have prayed for my brother John M. O'Gorman III who gave us lessons in caring for others and living with dignity and grace while suffering the physical decimation of ALS. He went home to God on November 9,2005. One of his last acts of kindness was to organize members of his family's support group to find and furnish a home for a family from New Orleans that had been relocated to Austin, TX. I know that John is in heaven and I ask your prayers for those of us who remain. St. Madeline Sophie and St. Philipine Duschene pray for us. Dearest Sacred Heart continue to help us. God bless us all.

AASH National Office - December 19, 2005

Wally Strobach asked your prayers for our beloved Sister Mary Gray McNally. Our good and gracious God took her home to heaven on Sunday morning, December 18. There was a Mass Monday, December 19 at Oakwood, where family from Santa Barbara had already gathered. We will have a memorial service after the holidays in St. Louis. Sister McNally was a wise and gracious woman, so totally devoted to the Society, and a human rolodex for generations of Sacred Heart alums! May she sleep in heavenly peace.

Wallis Strobach -  December 17, 2005

Please pray for Mary Gray McNally RSCJ, who has suffered a severe stroke. She taught at Maryville and was Dean. In her later years she worked with the alumnae at Villa Duchesne and that is when we became friends. She now resides at Oakwood near San Francisco.

Cristina Emanuela D - December 2, 2005

My Humble Prayer Request is for: Divine favor, help, forgiveness, protection, salvation, miracles, and visitation for me and my family to resolve my appeal ASAP, entirely favorably to me, and easily and happily finish my Ph D/Doctorate in English at TU/The University of Tulsa by May 2006 without any more worries or difficulties or problems or obstacles. May God bless us, hear us and our prayers, and help us all in everything we need or ask for, and remove us all from trials, tribulations, enemies, evil, difficulties, obstacles, magic, as well as school, relationship, and health problems, forgiving our sins and trespasses, allowing us to grow spiritually and to get along with everyone around us, in full harmony, love, peace, care, and understanding, providing for us, guiding us, allowing us to fulfill our dreams and to bring love, serenity, and joy to all those around us. May All Mighty God grant us all, now and forever, peace, grace, and happiness, goodwill, benevolent, strong, powerful protection against anything bad for us, and in the Name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord, through the prayers of His most compassionate Mother, Holy Virgin Mary, through the intercessions of all Divine Powers, may we immediately and favorably resolve all our issues, end all our troubles, find forgives and help, become better human beings, and move on happily with our lives on the paths we want, without any more obstacles, always bringing thanks and prayers to the Lord for His abundant blessings and mercy. May God always protect us and guide us and be with us, our families, our friends, and benefactors now and always. May God have mercy on us, sinners, and guide us into the eternal light. A guilty sinner, searching for forgiveness and divine help, begging for an end of my troubles and problems and obstacles and evil influences and wicked people and things and deeds, Cristina Emanuela Dascalu

Liz P - October 5, 2005

Please pray for my 80 yr old mother. A wonderful loving woman, disconnected (clinically depressed?) for years, fear overwhelming her life. No friends, outside life, peers, alone and aloof, no need for community of any kind. She is becoming irrational and upset and I pray that she can be moved to seek spiritual direction. There is a Benedictine monastery around the corner which she refuses to investigate. She reads her office in the morning and she is fine thanks, until the paper is late or the water overflows or…and the veins bulge out of her neck. She goes to mass weekly and to the library and other than that, no connection at all. Humbly ask prayers for me as I seek another place to live, trying to love and serve, but I must disconnect from this. Hoping to buy a house if God provides option… for T with colon cancer, it has arrived in her lung again… for F currently undergoing chemo for prostate CA… for our Pope, Benedict... for Katrina victims, families, deceased, and all affected… for YOUR intentions, past present and future... Many thanks.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Edward Madden Bigler, husband of Kenwood's Renee Bigler. Edward Madden Bigler of Vero Beach, FL and Greenwich, CT, died at home on August 9, of Liver Disease. Born June 1, 1921, the son of Mary Louise Gerstell, and Paul Gray Bigler. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Renee Holt Bigler, two sons, Edward M. Bigler Jr., of Tempe, AZ, Paul Gray Bigler of Darien, CT. He attended The Taft School and Princeton University, class of '44. A decorated veteran who served as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator in WWII in the 15th Air Corp. Mr. Bigler, after an extensive career in oil and gas exploration, established a non profit organization in 1981 in Greenwich, CT named Pathways. It's mission was to serve the needs of the mentally ill, particularly in providing housing. It continues to be a viable agency today. As an avid athlete he enjoyed many sports, especially tennis and golf. As a long time member of the Racquet and Tennis Club in NYC, The John's Island and Orchid Island Clubs in Vero Beach, FL, The Field Club and Stanwich Clubs of Greenwich, his friendship and camaraderie will not be soon forgotten.

News received from Convent of the Sacred Heart Greenwich: "It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Judy Patti, our beloved fourth grade teacher who was a vital and enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community for fifteen years. Involved in many Sacred Heart activities throughout the School, most recently Chair of our NEASC self-study, Judy was passionate about our mission, the compelling importance of girls’ education, and the implementation of our Goals and Criteria throughout the Lower School. We miss her more than words can say. Judy is survived by two sons, her mother and her brother." Please pray for the repose of her soul and for her family and students. A memorial Mass will be held at School on Sunday, April 17, at 12 noon. We hope that many of you who remember Mrs. Patti with love and affection will be able to attend.

Dear Members of our Sacred Heart Family, May the Sacred Heart of Jesus bestow abundant blessings upon you as we honor Mater on her very special Feast. Love in the Sacred Heart and prayers for peace in our troubled world, Olga S. Rome AMASC President

Prayer to Mater - Marie-Therese de Lescure, rscj Ninth Superior General Society of the Sacred Heart

Under the pressure of over activity which at times consumes us, disturbs us, or scatters our energies in doing what is visible and accidental, let us come to our "Mater". She is the Mother of the Invisible, and the Mother of the Essential.

Let us ask her to detach us, to free us from all that is not important, to lead us on, and fix our gaze upon the Invisible which her own eyes look upon: the Invisible Presence, the Invisible Life; the Invisible Action: the Invisible Love, all those things which are eternal values in us and the great realities of faith.

May she keep us throughout our busy and over-crowded days in the radiance of things that are not seen and firm as if we beheld them Invisible. In the midst of non-essentials which invite and often distract us, we run the risk of encumbering our beings and confusing our values. May She give us the right understanding of the Essential and a hunger for it.

One thing alone is necessary -- the will of God and the work of His love. May Mater give us the singleness of vision so that we, too, may see the Invisible and Essential in all.
