Eastern Alum and RSCJ Explore
Areas of Collaboration - 10/13/2001
posted by: Mary Ann Keyes
As I had said in my letter of introduction
as Eastern Regional Rep, my dream is that our
alumnae body find ways to reach out to the
marginalized of this world and work side by
side with our RSCJs and students who are involved
in community service.
There is a group of about 10 alum in the DC area who are exploring
ways to support Sr. Betsy Hartson, RSCJ in her work at Living Wages.
This community based center offers free adult education and job
assistance to economically disadvantaged and formerly homeless
men and women in preparing them for jobs. Ideally, there will be
a spiritual enrichment component offered to alum involved in this
ministry.
In the Boston area, several alum met with Gail O'Donnell, RSCJ,
Mary Jane Sullivan, RSCJ, and Nancy Kehoe, RSCJ to explore ways
that alum could collaborate with the RSCJ's in the area. Mary Jane
Sullivan, RSCJ is interested in help her work with the Coalition
for the Homeless. On Dec. 13,2001 from 4:45-6:00 P.M. there will
be a vigil on the steps of the State House in support of the homeless
and the statement of moral concern, which Sr Mary Jane wrote for
the Coalition. Any and all are encouraged to participate "no
matter what the weather" as Mary Jane said, because, despite
the weather, there is not adequate housing for the homeless. She
has asked those in the Boston area to sign this statement of moral
concern which will be circulated in parishes in the next few weeks.
Anyone interested in contacting Sister Mary Jane can do so by e-mail
at msullivan@rscj.org.
Out of this meeting came a desire on the part of alums for a retreat
or day of recollection.
SATURDAY, MARCH 2,2001 has been set aside for a retreat at Alumnae
House at Boston College. This retreat will be open to all Sacred
Heart alum in the Boston area. Sr. Gail O'Donnell has agreed to
put a team together for this day.
Anyone who has any suggestions on areas of collaboration please
feel free e-mailing me.
